ABOUT THE PROPERTY
El Iral Cloud Forest, a property of more than 1600 hectares (4000 acres), is full of fantastic views and nature in the heart of the closest cloud forest from San José. El Iral is in the mountains of Coronado, 50 minutes away from downtown San José.

At El Iral, we believe in sustainable development. With over 85% of the property protected, we simultaneously run a dairy production and a tourism project. Both projects employ local people while we are producing food for the Costa Rican population.

Strategically positioned between 2 national parks (Braulio Carrillo and Irazú volcano), and with an elevation of 2200m (7200ft) above sea level, El Iral is a natural sanctuary and an important biological path for many species of flora and fauna, an amazing place for birdwatchers and outdoor lovers alike.
HIKING TRAILS
AT IRAL CLOUD FOREST
El Iral offers more than 50km (31 miles) of hiking trails in the heart of the Costa Rican cloud forest. There are trails for all physical levels that will take you through lush tropical vegetation and open pastures with incredible scenery. You can visit rivers, waterfalls, and amazing lookout points where you can appreciate 4 volcanos, ocean views, the central valley, and even visit a natural-colored lagoon in the heart of the mountains.

There are two different ways to enjoy El Iral: you can take a hike on your own through our well-marked trails, or you can plan to go deeper into the mountains with one of our guides in a full tour experience.

Our team is dedicated to provide an excellent experience. We hire and train only local people from Coronado “Coronadeños”, and mostly women. We believe that our project has a remarkable impact on the lives of our employees. There is no doubt that El Iral is a pioneer in tourism and economic development of our area.
